The New England Patriots have agreed to terms on a one-year deal with Cam Newton, according to league sources.
The contract is reportedly incentive-laden.
Newton was released by the Carolina Panthers on March 24. He'll complete with Brian Hoyer and Jarrett Stidham to replace Tom Brady in New England.
Shaq Barrett is currently one of five NFL players that have yet to sign their franchise tag tenders.
"It's still up in the air right now, about 50-50," Barrett said on NFL Total Access. "We'll find out a little more information on Friday."
Barrett set a new single-season sack record (19.5) in his first season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
He has a $15.8 million tender he's yet to sign and he and the Buccaneers have a July 15 deadline to work out a long-term deal.
The Seattle Seahawks and Baltimore Ravens have held internal discussions about the possibility of signing Antonio Brown.
Brown remains a free agent this offseason. The New England Patriots released Brown after Week 2 during the 2019 season.
Brown's status with the NFL is uncertain amid multiple sexual assault allegations.
The Dallas Cowboys and Dak Prescott have until July 15 to work out a multi-year deal.
Prescott wants a four-year deal, but the Cowboys want five, a source has confirmed.
From the quarterback's perspective, a four-year deal easily becomes a five- or six-year deal, thanks to the franchise tag. Prescott will make $31.4 million in 2020 under the franchise tag if a new deal isn't completed by the deadline.
The Cowboys are reportedly "stunned" by Prescott's stance.
Dak Prescott plans to sign his $31.4 million exclusive franchise tender by Monday.
Prescott and The Cowboys have until July 15th to work out a long-term deal.
By signing his franchise tender, Prescott will be contractually obligated to report to training camp on time.
The Cowboys have made Prescott an offer this offseason that would make him among the highest paid players in the NFL.
Prescott has said on multiple occasions that he never wanted to leave the Cowboys.
Anthony Lynn said team "would be crazy" not to have Colin Kaepernick on their workout lists this summer.
Lynn did not indicate whether Kaepernick was currently on the Los Angeles Chargers' list.
"I haven't spoken with Colin, not sure where he's at as far in his career, what he wants to do," Lynn said. "But Colin definitely fits the style of quarterback for the system that we're going to be running. I'm very confident and happy with the three quarterbacks that I have, but you can never have too many people waiting on the runway."
The Chargers are the first team to mention Kaepernick as a workout candidate.
Roger Goodell said he supports and encourages teams to sign Colin Kaepernick this offseason.
Kaepernick hasn't played since the 2016 season when he began to kneel during the national anthem to protest racial inequality.
"Well, listen, if he wants to resume his career in the NFL, then obviously it's gonna take a team to make that decision," Goodell said. "But I welcome that, support a club making that decision, and encourage them to do that.
"If his efforts are not on the field but continuing to work in this space, we welcome him to that table and to help us, guide us, help us make better decisions about the kinds of things that need to be done in the communities. We have invited him in before, and we want to make sure that everybody's welcome at that table, and trying to help us deal with some very complex, difficult issues, that have been around for a long time.
"But I hope we're at a point now where everybody's committed to making long-term, sustainable change."
The Cleveland Browns and Myles Garrett have engaged in contract extension discussions.
Garrett has two seasons remaining on his existing deal.
Fellow 2017 NFL draft class member Christian McCaffrey has already signed an extension after three seasons.
After 10 sacks in as many games last year, Garrett is widely viewed as one of the game's most feared pass-rushers.
"We do see Myles as a long-term member and pillar in our organization," general manager Andrew Berry told 105.7 the Fan Baltimore last month. "Great player, great person. Obviously, he did make a mistake last year that he's learned from. But our confidence in and faith in Myles has not wavered and we're looking to seeing what he does this year and certainly for years to come.''
There is at least one team with interest in signing Colin Kaepernick, according to Pete Carroll.
Carroll said he received a call from an undisclosed team on Thursday asking about Kaepernick.
Kaepernick has remained a free agent since 2017.
